Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought the report from Sindh Government about the legislation to ban sale of Gutka, mainpuri etc and ordered for seal of factories, producing these items. The SHC bench headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar issued these orders while hearing "contempt of court" petition against IG Sindh and others for not complying with the court orders to check sale of gutka, mainpuri and etc.

The court directed the provincial government to submit the report about legislation regarding ban on sale of Gutka, mainpuri and others by October 8 and also ordered IG Sindh to furnish the report about complying with the earlier orders of the court. The court warned to summon Sindh Chief Minister and Sindh IG if the progress report was not submitted with the court in this regard.

Justice Panhwar in his observations said that nobody is sentisized about the issue and is totally careless about the people, who are dying because of use of Gutka, mainpuri etc. He ordered that work for legislation to ban sale of Gutka and mainpuri should be started immediately and said that all the factories producing these items should be sealed. He said that doctors treating the cancer disease are making the pleas that Gutka sale should be banned as people are dying at the hands of this disease.
